Description

This session will provide the latest updates in the field of genetics and introduce gcConnect—a new resource to support non-genetics healthcare providers. gcConnect offers direct access to genetic counsellors via phone or email, enabling physicians and nurse practitioners to confidently seek guidance and order genetic tests within their scope of practice. The presentation will also highlight key resources available through the Provincial Genetics Program (PGP) to assist with appropriate genetic test ordering. Additionally, attendees will learn when and how to refer patients to the Genetics Clinic for further evaluation.

Objectives:
• Explain the purpose and components of gcConnect.
• Identify available genetic resources.
• Understand and gain confidence in ordering genetic tests that do not require referral to a genetics clinic.

SPEAKER:

Taylor Speziale, M.Sc, CCGC is a full-time genetic counsellor in the Clinical Genetics Program at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors. She has an Honours Bachelor of Science, majoring in biology, minoring in psychology from Lakehead University and a Master of Science in Genetic and Genomic Counselling from Cardiff University.
