Description We are excited to offer a workshop for Nurse Practitioners (NPs) that focuses on child and youth (0-25 years of age) mental health and substance use. This workshop will guide NPs through developmentally appropriate approaches to supporting young people in their pursuit of wellness and developmental milestones. During the workshop we will highlight key factors impacting how children and youth interact with the health care system. This workshop will provide the opportunity to employ a combination of methods to practice new skills, such as role-play and case-studies in order to practice the skills needed to move from novice to expert when assessing and treating children and youth who present with concerns related to their mental health. NPs will be able to apply their advanced clinical assessment and reasoning skills to practice recognizing, assessing, and treating mental health challenges in children andyouth. We plan to also provide strategies to boost the NPs’ clinical toolkit, with brief psychotherapeutic strategies that can be used easily with children and youth. By the end of this workshop, NPs will strengthen their clinical knowledge and feel more prepared to care for children and youth with mental health concerns.
