This one-hour webinar equips Nurse Practitioners with the knowledge to identify patients who may benefit from orthotic interventions and to navigate Ontario’s Assistive Devices Program (ADP). Certified Orthotists will explain how orthotic care fits within an interdisciplinary model and how Nurse Practitioners play a key role in patient access, assessment, and follow-up.
The session combines clinical insight, practical referral guidance, and real-world examples to enhance collaborative care and optimize patient outcomes. Learning Objectives: By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Recognize clinical scenarios and patient populations where orthotic management
supports function, safety, and long-term health outcomes.
2. Explain the role and scope of Certified Orthotists in Ontario and how they collaborate
with Nurse Practitioners within the care team.
3. Describe the structure and eligibility requirements of Ontario’s Assistive Devices
Program (ADP) for orthotic devices, including how NPs contribute to patient access and
referral.
4. Apply best practices for coordinating referrals, documentation, and follow-up to ensure
efficient, patient-centered orthotic care.
