Alcohol Use Disorder and Opioid Use Disorders from a NP perspective - approach, diagnosis and medication treatment options. By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between substance use and substance use disorders using clinical criteria
- Apply evidence-informed approaches to the screening, diagnosis, and management of alcohol use disorder
- Identify appropriate treatment strategies for opioid use disorder, including considerations for both street-sourced (e.g., fentanyl) and prescription opioids
SPEAKER:
Laura Hill has been a practicing nurse since 2006, beginning her career after earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McMaster University. She went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing at York University in 2010, followed by her Nurse Practitioner–Adult certification at University of Toronto in 2013.
Laura has spent her entire career serving northern communities, primarily in Sudbury, with additional experience in Moose Factory. As a Nurse Practitioner, she has worked across a range of clinical settings, including geriatrics, the emergency department, and addictions care. Her diverse experience has equipped her with a broad, patient-centered perspective and a strong commitment to addressing the unique healthcare needs of northern and underserved populations.
