The use of risk-prediction tools for early identification of chronic kidney disease

Dr. Navdeep Tangri

Dr. Tangri is an attending physician and Professor in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine, and Department of Community Health Sciences in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba.

His multidisciplinary research program is focused on improving clinical decision-making for patients with or at risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD). He developed and validated the Kidney Failure Risk Equation (KFRE) to predict the need for dialysis in patients with CKD and is actively engaged in implementation efforts with guidelines, laboratory providers, and EMRs to increase its global uptake.

In addition, Dr. Tangri leads large observational studies and randomized trials in CKD and is working on the development of the next generation of prediction models to transform CKD care.

He has authored more than 400 manuscripts, presented at numerous national and international scientific meetings, and serves as the nominated champion of the American Society of Nephrology’s initiative on Artificial Intelligence in kidney health.
