This webinar will provide an overview of the Gender-Affirming Care for Gender-Diverse People: Care for Adults quality standard.
It will introduce the audience to the quality statements and explore how they can be used to improve care for gender-diverse adults over the age of 18. Presenters will also review useful tools and resources that nurse practitioners can use to increase their capacity in providing gender-affirming care and identify opportunities for improvement in their clinical practice.
The webinar will begin with a lived experience story from a gender-diverse person. The speakers will present data on gaps in care for gender-diverse adults in Ontario, and provide an overview of the quality standard and accompanying products. The speakers will present a case study and invite participants to consider how the quality standard informs the patient’s care. Finally, the speaker will highlight supporting resources for clinicians and for gender-diverse adults.
Time will then be allotted for a question-and-answer period with the panelists.
Speakers Information:
Erin Ziegler(she/her) is a primary health care nurse practitioner and Associate Professor with the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing. She was the co-chair for the Quality Standard Advisory Committee and is the clinical lead of the Gender-affirming care program with Queen Square Family Health Team.
Sarah McTavish is a lead in the Clinical and Quality Standards program at Ontario Health. Sarah led the development of the Gender-Affirming Care for Gender-Diverse Adults quality standard. Sarah holds a Master’s of Science from Queen’s University and has over 10 years of experience in the health care sector.
